Did you miss us? We sure missed you . . . we have been very busy here at the Kinder Learning Garden! Our school just became a visual and performing arts magnet. All of the students at our school are receiving one hour of arts instruction a week with an artist from the Pasadena Arts Armory! Smart Boards are coming and we can't wait to start using them to enhance our instruction. Keep your eyes open for updates on how we are incorporating arts and technology in our classroom. In February we exhibited at the Southern California Kindergarten Convention in Pasadena, CA. It was great to see old friends and meet new ones!

Our Favorite Things:
We have decided to start a section in our newsletter where we give a shout out to those people, things and products we really like and use in our own classroom. This month we want to spotlight ESGI. We started using ESGI last school year and absolutely love it. ESGI is a software tool that was created by a kindergarten teacher to assess students. It is easy to use and it helps you to assess your students at a faster pace. One of our favorite parts is that after you are done assessing your students, you can print out letters that explain to parents exactly what their child has mastered and what they need to continue to work on. We have had so many parents comment on how much they like knowing what areas to work on with their child. Parent communication is key when it comes to a students success and ESGI makes it effortless. We highly recommend you try ESGI. If you click on any of the ESGI links in this section, it will take you to our friends page and you click on the ESGI logo to watch their 3 minute video. If you sign-up for the free 60 day trial, just e-mail us and we will share our ESGI assessments we have created for our own classroom. We know you will love it just as much as we do!
Product Spotlight:
Sight words are a huge part of the kindergarten curriculum. We use a variety of activities to help students read and write the sight words. Day 1: We introduce the sight word of the week by singing the sight word song and having students wear their Sight Word Necklaces home. Day 2: Students build sentences using the sight word in a pocket chart. Day 3: Students complete the Sight Word Writing Sheet. When the front of the worksheet is finished, the students turn the paper over and write additional sentences using the sight word on their own. Day 4: Students make their Sight Word Books. If you need additional practice, try our newest product the Sight Word Sentences Set!
